This is a service delivery platform to provide state-of-the-art instrumentation for molecular imaging in organisms from cells to animals and the necessary expertise to operate with such a complex instrumentation. The platform provides bioinformatic support for imaging data storage and comparison and for the development of state-of-the art technology for data management. The platform aims to become a reference center in modern molecular and cellular imaging. The platform will allow the study with optical methods of the localization and interactions among molecules and their behavior in subcellular structures, living cells and tissues.

Technological services offered

  • Analysis of molecules interaction in vivo with high spatio-temporal resolution thanks to the combined application of Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) and of Fluorescence Lifetime IMaging (FLIM);
  • Analysis of molecules fate and behaviour in cells in vivo through Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching (FRAP) and Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS);
  • Application of sophisticated microscopy techniques to biological studies (EM studies, Electron Tomography, Correlative Microscopy) ;
  • Multiphoton confocal microscopy of thick specimen and tissues in living animals expressing fluorescent proteins in defined cell and/or tissue types.
In vivo animal imaging will be carried out by mean of :
  • Radionuclide Imaging using animal PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) and Radionucleotide imaging combined with a computed tomography;
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI);
  • Optical Imaging of bioluminescent probes;
  • Atomic Force Microscopy of DNA, proteins, cells, tissues.
